Is the Copa libertadores the most important club tournament in Latin America? Is it the equivalent of what the Champions League is in Europe? Good Luck to the Chivas and wish them all the best in the final.|||Yes, it is true. They were a special invitee to the competition and they made it all the way to the final using players that were brought up from their own youth reserves. Ten of the 11 that played yesterday, were from their youth reserves. The Chivas team is the only mexican team that has an entire squad full of Mexicans and that is part of their tradition. Hopefully, this is Mexico's year to reign supreme as in 1998 Cruz Azul came in second in the copa libertadores. Thanks for wishing our Chivas team luck. Btw, yes the Copa Libertadores is the equivalent of the Champions League in Latin America and it is the most prestigious tournament hosted in Latin America since its inception by the conmebol in 1960.|||Yes they are. They are the core of the Mexican national team, have a great goal keeper, two great forwards and the rest of the team is good to pretty good.
Libertadores is definitely the most important club tournament in SOUTH AMERICA. Mexican teams participate of that without special invitations, that started to be distributed to Mexican teams since 1998. They've been successful: Cruz Axil was a runner up in 2001 (and lost due to the bad calls of a fellow Brazilian referee), America made the semi-finals 3 times out of 6 participation's, and Chivas got the the final in their 5th appearance (the previously got 2 semi-finals as well).
The team I'm a huge fan of (SA Paulo) will play the other semi-final tomorrow against another Brazilian team. I hope we get there and can revive the awesome matches SP and Chivas made in the 2006 Liberators (SP lost two matches at the 1st round than, in the semi-finals, beat Chivas 1x0 in Mexico and 3x0 in Brazil).
For you to have an idea of how the Liberators is really a South America oriented tournament. The champion of this tournament is automatically classified to the Fi fa World club championship in December. If the Liberators champion is a Mexican team, the runner up will go to the World tournament (if my team gets to the final we'll be already classified to the World championship).|||Copa Libertadores can easily be considered the best club competition in the western hemisphere|||@roma your information is wrong cruz azul made it in 2001|||*cough*
as an award we should give chivas
